“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money Matt 6:24
Have you seen the show King of Boys: the return of the king? If you have you’ll be familiar with the dilemma that Eniola Badmus found herself in. She wanted to turn a new leaf and change her ways but she also still wanted to dominate in the space she desired to leave. She got herself in so much stress and trouble trying to straddle both worlds until she decided she was going to be all in one way and at the end, she was able to fully dominate.
That used to be me in my christian walk, I wanted to go to church and worship God and experience the promises of God but i also wanted to party hard, fornicate and drink myself to oblivion. I had no peace in my heart and I was lost. Sitting on the fence will cause you to fall like Humpty Dumpty and unable to pick yourself back up. It's the same with us when we try to serve two masters, we end up in ‘poto poto’, making a mess and getting stretched and in trouble.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. The fact that there are two masters is already evidence that your heart doesn’t love or submit to the first one fully. A person that’s split between two masters is unfaithful and unreliable, you can never tell which camp they belong to. You can’t trust them.
Can God trust you to obey Him? It is easy to say that we serve God as master but our actions and choices are what will reveal the truth. If you constantly choose money, comfort, wealth or man before doing what God has asked of you, you are choosing to serve those things.
To keep an undivided focus on God:
Die to all things: lay it all down and let Him resurrect only the things that He wants
Keep your eyes on the big picture: the promise of glory grander than any pleasure we could ever get on earth
Consider the suffering of people that don’t have the good news, they must also hear and understand and believe
Realization that without God you can do nothing
Clarity on purpose: know why you’re here (to glorify God) and let everything align to it
Spend time with the Father, quality and abiding time
The value of a creation is to do the work of the Master and do it well. When we choose other masters, we are not able to glorify God the way He designed us to. Attempting to fight against what you are created for brings shame to you and you will be tossed away like the lukewarm Christians mentioned in Revelations.
